
An individual has been arrested in connection with the theft of recording equipment valued at around Rs. 1.5 million from a recording studio at the Sri Sudharmarama Vihara in Madulawa, Padukka, police stated.
The theft was reported after a complaint was lodged by a monk of the temple at the Padukka Police Station. Following investigations, police, acting on information provided by the Western Province Intelligence Division, arrested the suspect.
The arrested individual is a 36-year-old resident of Padukka.
Police said the suspect had broken into the temple’s “Kavi Bana” recording studio and stolen computers and other recording equipment. The stolen items were later recovered after being sold to a third party.
Investigations further revealed that the suspect is a heavy user of crystal methamphetamine (‘Ice’), and a quantity of the drug was also recovered from his possession at the time of arrest.
The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court.
