The leader of 'Sarvajana Balaya', Member of Parliament Dilith Jayaweera has expressed concern over the government's decision to hold the 2026 G.C.E. Advanced Level examination in August, claiming that the move would significantly reduce students' preparation time.
In a post published on X (formerly Twitter), Jayaweera stated that Advanced Level students are normally provided with approximately 26 months to complete the prescribed syllabus and prepare for the examination.
However, he alleged that the government's proposed schedule would effectively deprive students of around six months of preparation time.
He further pointed out that the current cohort of students had already experienced major disruptions to their education due to the impact of the Cyclone Ditwah, which he said adversely affected their learning process.
Jayaweera criticized what he described as delays and a lack of sensitivity on the part of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and the government towards students sitting for the examination this year.
Calling on the government to reconsider its decision, he urged authorities to withdraw the proposed examination schedule and provide immediate consideration to students, emphasizing that the Advanced Level examination represents a crucial stage in their academic and professional lives.
