
Three individuals have been killed in separate road accidents reported from different parts of the country, according to police.
A 48-year-old man was killed in an accident at Kaduwela on the Wahigala Road in Matale. The incident had occurred when a motorcycle travelling from Wahigala towards Kaduwela collided with a cable that had been unsafely stretched across the road.
The rider had sustained serious injuries and had succumbed at the scene, while two 14-year-old children who were travelling as pillion passengers on the motorcycle were injured and admitted to the Matale Hospital for treatment.
In a separate incident, a pedestrian was killed in an accident at Hakurukumbura on the Mirigama–Nalla Road. The accident had occurred when a motorcycle travelling towards Nalla struck the pedestrian.
The victim was admitted to the Mirigama Hospital with injuries but later succumbed while receiving treatment.
He has been identified as a 59-year-old resident of the Nalla area, police said.
The motorcyclist involved in the accident has been arrested, and the Mirigama Police are conducting further investigations.
Meanwhile, a 40-year-old resident of Delvita had died in a collision at Godamada on the Delvita–Kiribathgalla Road.
The accident had occurred when a three-wheeler travelling from Kiribathgalla towards Delvita collided with a bus travelling in the opposite direction.
The three-wheeler driver has died, while two women travelling as passengers in the vehicle had sustained injuries and were admitted to hospital for treatment.
The bus driver has been taken into custody, and further investigations are being carried out by the Delvita Police.
