
Five individuals have been arrested by Pulmoddai Police for allegedly attempting to sell a rare stone believed to have possible historical or archaeological significance for Rs. 20 million.
Police said the suspects were taken into custody following a raid carried out yesterday (15) in Pulmoddai, based on a tip-off received by officers.
The arrested suspects, aged between 29 and 57, are residents of Puliyankulam, Echchalampattu and Trincomalee.
Police said the stone in question has been handed over to relevant departments for further examination to determine its authenticity and archaeological value.
Pulmoddai Police Station is continuing further investigations into the incident.
