The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, together with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), has launched a new mobile application, “LankaKonect,” aimed at strengthening protection and improving access to support services for Sri Lankan migrant workers worldwide.
The application was officially launched by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijith Herath at a ceremony held in Colombo.
According to the Ministry, “LankaKonect” has been developed through a collaborative effort between the ministry, the SLBFE, and the ILO, with technical support from Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT).
The platform provides migrant workers with a centralized digital system to submit complaints, request assistance, track case progress, and access essential information and services regardless of their country of employment.
Officials said the system integrates complaint management processes across the SLBFE, the Consular Affairs Division of the ministry, and Sri Lanka’s overseas diplomatic missions, enabling improved coordination and faster responses to worker grievances and welfare concerns.
Initially conceptualized as a complaint management tool, the application was later expanded into a broader digital service platform following consultations with government institutions and development partners. It is intended to serve Sri Lankans employed, studying, or residing abroad, the Foreign Ministry noted.
The app is available free of charge on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
The Foreign Ministry said the launch reflects the government’s commitment to digital transformation and to improving citizen-centred public services, while strengthening the protection, welfare, and rights of Sri Lankan migrant workers through technology-driven solutions.
