Former Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS) Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay, who is currently in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital, has reiterated that he will not end his ongoing hunger strike.

According to reports, Major General Suresh Sallay told his personnel lawyer during a hospital visit that he is unwilling to return to the CID detention cell, describing the facility as “hell” and stating that death would be preferable. He is also said to have alleged that the CID Director holds personal animosity toward him.

During the same visit, the lawyer is reported to have informed Sallay of developments related to ongoing investigations, including matters under review by the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka, the government’s position on the possible repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, and a request made to the President by the Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter. The lawyer also urged him to end the hunger strike.

However, former Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS) Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay reportedly maintained his position, insisting that he will continue the protest.

Meanwhile, the CID has informed the Human Rights Commission that video footage of a physical inspection allegedly carried out on March 8 is not available, stating that its storage system retains recordings only for the past month.

In response, the Human Rights Commission is reportedly considering obtaining external technical assistance to recover or retrieve the missing footage.

The CID has also been requested to submit additional reports related to the ongoing investigations into Sallay, with a deadline set for June 26.
