Police have launched a full investigation after the body of a woman was found inside a locked car in Teldeniya, with evidence pointing to the involvement of her boyfriend.
The deceased has been identified as a 33-year-old physiotherapist attached to the Ampara Hospital and a resident of Weligama.
Police said they received a telephone call around 2 p.m. yesterday (17) from an unidentified person reporting that a body was inside a vehicle parked near the Teldeniya Hospital. Officers who arrived at the scene found a locked car and, after forcing it open, discovered the woman’s body inside.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim’s boyfriend may have transported the body in the vehicle and abandoned it at the location before fleeing.
Further inquiries revealed that the woman had been staying at a hotel in Nuwara Eliya from June 3 to June 16. CCTV footage reportedly shows her being carried while unconscious by her boyfriend during that period.
Police also confirmed that the initial report to the Teldeniya Police was made by a person believed to be the boyfriend. However, he has since gone missing, and Nuwara Eliya Police are conducting operations to trace him.
Following a magisterial inquiry, the body was placed at the morgue of the Teldeniya Hospital for post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the death resulted from a homicide or other circumstances, police added.
