Four individuals have been remanded in custody for allegedly obstructing police duties in the Deraniyagala area.
The incident occurred on June 19 when a group of police officers conducting a drug raid in the area became involved in a confrontation with several local residents.
The suspects were arrested on charges of being members of an unlawful assembly, assaulting and injuring four police officers, obstructing official duties, and possessing the narcotic substance known as “Ice” (crystal methamphetamine).
According to reports, the suspects were produced before the Avissawella Magistrate’s Court while receiving treatment at the Avissawella Hospital.
Subsequently, the court had ordered that the four suspects be remanded until July 3, 2026.
Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Deraniyagala Police.
