Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has visited Kandy this morning (21) in connection with a series of religious observances organized to mark the birth anniversary of late former President Ranasinghe Premadasa, which falls on June 23.
During the visit, he called on the Chief Prelate of the Malwathu Chapter, the Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera, at the Malwathu Maha Viharaya and received blessings.
He later visited the Asgiri Viharaya and met the Chief Prelate of the Asgiri Chapter, the Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thera, to seek blessings.
Speaking to the media afterward, Premadasa said that it is the responsibility of the current government to reduce fuel prices and electricity tariffs.
He pointed out that countries such as Pakistan have lowered fuel prices in line with declining global oil prices and questioned why Sri Lanka has failed to do the same.
“The government has a duty and responsibility to reduce fuel prices. Electricity tariffs should also be reduced. What we are witnessing today is an administration sustained by empty promises and falsehoods. Lies do not last forever. If the government truly has public confidence, it should prove it by holding a Provincial Council election,” he said.
