
Sri Lanka’s overall inflation rate, as measured by the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) on a year-on-year (YoY) basis, increased to 5.4% in May 2026, up from 4.7% recorded in April 2026, according to the Department of Census and Statistics.
The Department stated that the year-on-year inflation rate for the food category rose to 1.5% in May 2026 from 1.1% in April 2026. Meanwhile, non-food inflation increased to 8.6% in May 2026, compared to 7.8% recorded in the previous month.
