18-year-old Canadian woman arrested with 36kg of Hashish at BIA

An 18-year-old woman has been arrested by the Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Control Unit with 36 kilograms of the narcotic substance ‘Hashish’ at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

 

The seized stock of narcotics is estimated to be worth over Rs.352 million, according to officials.

 

The suspect had arrived in Sri Lanka from Toronto, Canada, via Dubai onboard Emirates flight EK 648 at approximately 10:40 p.m. last night (23).

 

Upon inspection, Customs officers had discovered 35,265 grams (35.265 kilograms) of Hashish concealed inside the baggage.

 

Preliminary investigations are currently being conducted by officers of the Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs.

 

The suspect, along with the seized narcotics, is scheduled to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for further investigations and legal proceedings.
