The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has announced the postponement of the mandatory submission of Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) Certificates for eight specified transactions until April 01, 2027.

The requirement, which was originally scheduled to come into effect on November 01, 2026 has been deferred following a significant increase in demand for TIN Certificates among the public.

According to the IRD, the decision was taken with the approval of the Ministry of Finance in view of the growing demand, not only from individuals involved in the specified transactions but also from the general public.

The mandatory submission requirement was introduced in accordance with Section 103(6) of the Inland Revenue Act, No. 24 of 2017, as amended by the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Act, No. 11 of 2026, under Circular No. SEC/PN/IT/2026/05 dated 22 September 2026.

During the extended period, the IRD plans to introduce alternative and more convenient methods for individuals who have already registered for a TIN to obtain their certificates.

Meanwhile, the Inland Revenue Department has also encouraged individuals who have not yet obtained a TIN to register through its online e-Services platform.

The IRD emphasised that the requirement has been postponed, not cancelled, and will take effect from April 01, 2027.
