
A head-on collision involving two private buses has occurred this morning (26) on Talalla Vajirawansha Mawatha along the Matara–Tangalle Road, police said.
According to police, 38 individuals who sustained injuries in the accident have been admitted to hospital for treatment. Of them, 25 victims were admitted to the Matara General Hospital, while the remaining injured passengers were taken to the Batheegama District Hospital.
The accident occurred at around 7.45 a.m. and involved a private bus operating on the Galle–Ampara route and another bus travelling between Tangalle and Matara.
The collision resulted in the temporary closure of the main Tangalle–Matara road, causing disruptions to traffic, said Ada Derana reporter.
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, and police have commenced further investigations into the incident.
