
Opposition Members of Parliament today (26) submitted a letter to the Speaker of Parliament Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne seeking permission to hold a parliamentary debate on the prolonged vacancies in the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, highlighting the steps to be taken to fill the relevant vacancies.
In their letter to the Speaker, the opposition members stressed the Parliament’s responsibility and accountability regarding the impact on the rule of law, as well as the consequences on the public’s fundamental rights and access to justice, noting that more than eight vacancies in the Supreme Court have remained unfilled for over six months.
