The four arrestees, including the main suspect, his wife, the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Kundasale Police Training School, and a driver attached to the Kundasale Pradeshiya Sabha, have been remanded until July 09 in connection with the investigation into the murder of the physiotherapist whose body was discovered inside a car in Theldeniya.
The order was issued by the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court.
Meanwhile, the OIC of the Kundasale Police Training School had been arrested by Nuwara Eliya Police over allegations of aiding and abetting the crime.
According to police, the arrest was made on suspicion that the officer assisted the main suspect and his wife in evading arrest by helping them remain in hiding.
Authorities further noted that the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court had granted approval on a previous occasion to detain and interrogate the previously arrested main suspect, his wife, and the driver of the Kundasale Pradeshiya Sabha for a period of 48 hours.
Earlier, a post-mortem examination confirmed that the death of the physiotherapist, whose body was found inside a car parked near the Teldeniya Hospital on June 17, was caused by strangulation.
