Sri Lanka has been successfully elected to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Committee) at the election held at the United Nations Headquarters.
Sri Lanka secured 144 votes out of 185 valid votes, receiving the highest number of votes among all successful candidates, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The election reflects the confidence of the international community in Sri Lanka's commitment to advancing and protecting the rights of women and promoting gender equality, the Ministry noted.
