More than 18,000 Dansals have been registered across Sri Lanka for the Poson Poya festival, the Public Health Inspectors' (PHI) Union says.

Its Secretary, Chamil Muthukuda, said that as of yesterday (27), a total of 18,129 Dansals had been registered island wide.

He noted that public health inspectors will inspect the dansals scheduled to operate tomorrow (29) and the following day (30) to ensure they comply with health guidelines.

Inspections of permanent and temporary food outlets operating in Poson festival zones will also be carried out throughout the week.

According to him, more than 200 Dansals had been registered in the vicinity of the Anuradhapura Sacred City by yesterday.

He added that the Health Division of the Anuradhapura Municipal Council has implemented a special programme to monitor food safety and prevent the spread of communicable diseases in and around the city.

Relevant health guidelines and instructions have already been provided to dansal organisers by the Municipal Council's Health Division, and officials expect organisers to adhere to them, Muthukuda said.
