An ‘Amber’ advisory has been issued by the Department of Meteorology for rough sea conditions and strong winds for sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Mannar, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.

 

The advisory, issued at 11.00 a.m. today (28), will remain in effect until 11.00 a.m. tomorrow (29).

 

According to the Met. Department, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Mannar, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota will be rough at times with strong gusty winds up to 50-60 kmph.

 

Meanwhile, the wave height may increase about 2.0 – 3.0 meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota, the Met. Department added.

 

Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant and attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.
