The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Traffic Division at the Yatiyanthota Police Station has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of an official service firearm, police said.
The arrest was carried out by officers of the Seethawakapura Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau.
According to police, the officer had signed out a service pistol along with 10 rounds of ammunition for official duties on June 26. However, while the ammunition was later returned, the service pistol was not handed back.
Following an investigation, officers of the Seethawakapura Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau arrested the Sub-Inspector, who was serving as the OIC of the Traffic Division at the Yatiyanthota Police Station, yesterday (27).
The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Ruwanwella Magistrate's Court today (28).
