Police have announced that traffic will be restricted on several roads in the Matara District today (29) and over the coming days due to a number of Poson Peraheras.

The Poson Perahera of the Kondeniya Asokaramaya Temple is scheduled to begin at 7.00 p.m. today (29). The procession will start from the temple, proceed via Kondeniya Junction and the Old Beliatta Road to Dikwella town, continue along the Colombo–Kataragama Main Road towards Tangalle, and then return to the temple.

During the Perahera, a section of the Colombo–Kataragama Main Road will be temporarily closed, and motorists are advised to use alternative routes, police said.

Meanwhile, traffic restrictions will also be in place on roads in Ratmale, Radampala, and surrounding areas due to another Poson Perahera being held in Ratmale.

In addition, the Poson procession of the Walasgala Sri Jayawardhana Mudhalindharamaya Temple is scheduled to take place from 10.00 a.m. on July 1, 2026. Traffic disruptions are expected on several roads in Walasgala, Beliatta, Dikwella, and nearby areas while the procession is underway.

Police have requested motorists and the public to use alternative routes during the processions to minimize congestion and ensure public safety.
