Rear Admiral Damian Fernando appointed new Commander of Sri Lanka Navy

Vice Admiral Damien Fernando has been appointed as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

 

Accordingly, Rear Admiral Damien Fernando, who previously served as the Navy’s Chief of Staff, has been promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral and named the 27th Commander of the Navy.

 

The letter of appointment was handed over to him this afternoon (30) by Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake at the Presidential Secretariat.

 

The appointment will take effect from July 1, when the current Navy Commander, Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, is scheduled to retire from service.
