A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Anuradhapura Provincial High Court after being found guilty of possessing 3.074 grams of heroin.
The convict, a resident of Thalawa, was sentenced today (30) after the prosecution proved the charges against him beyond reasonable doubt.
The case had been pending before the Anuradhapura Provincial High Court for over four years before the verdict was delivered.
The suspect was arrested during a raid carried out by officers of the Thalawa Police based on a tip-off received by a Sub-Inspector (SI) attached to the station.
Accordingly, a team of police officers, including the Chief Inspector of the Thalawa Police, had taken steps to arrest the suspect and produce him before the court.
