
A special priority card will be introduced to ensure priority access to services for differently-abled persons at government institutions.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities held under the chairmanship of Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Dr. Upali Pannilage, today (30).
The pilot project for the initiative is scheduled to be implemented through the Kaduwela Divisional Secretariat.
The Council also agreed to issue an official circular on the classification of disabilities to standardise procedures across state institutions.
It was further decided to publish a guideline on the terminology to be used when referring to persons with disabilities, in collaboration with the Department of Official Languages.
Additionally, members agreed to develop criteria to evaluate individuals providing services to persons with disabilities.
The Ministry Secretary and the Secretary to the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, Sampath Manthrinayake, Additional Secretary Naleeka Piyasena, Director of Social Services Darshani Karunaratne, along with other officials and council members, attended the meeting.
