Met. Department warns of thunderstorms, strong winds across Sri Lanka
Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts today (01), the Department of Meteorology warned.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m., the Met. Department added.
Meanwhile, strong winds of about 40-50kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
The general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
