Container truck breakdown causes heavy traffic congestion near Kelani Bridge
A container truck has broken down due to a mechanical failure near the Kelani Bridge on the Kandy–Colombo main road, causing heavy traffic congestion towards Colombo, police said.
The breakdown has caused severe delays along the Colombo-bound stretch, with traffic backing up for several kilometres, according to police.
Police have advised motorists heading towards Colombo to use the Negombo Road diversion and proceed via the Old Kelani Bridge to reduce congestion and ease traffic flow in Peliyagoda.
Steps have been taken to remove the disabled container and restore normal traffic as quickly as possible, police added.
