The Department of Railways has suspended two train services on the Kelani Valley railway line until further notice due to the unavailability of a power set required for the operation.
The General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Association (SLSMA), Kasun Chamara Jayasekara, confirmed this in a statement.
Accordingly, the 4.00 p.m. train from Colombo Fort to Avissawella and the 5.55 a.m. service from Avissawella to Colombo Fort have both been temporarily suspended with effect from today (01).
The Railway Department is reportedly experiencing continuous train cancellations, which the SLSMA says has now become a normal situation.
The association further pointed out that the cancellation of trains during peak hours, particularly at times when a large number of office workers and daily commuters travel, has subjected commuters to severe hardship and growing inconvenience on a daily basis.
