Sri Lanka's bodybuilding team returned to the island after delivering a strong performance at the second Mr. Universe Bodybuilding World Championships in Thailand.
The national contingent won a total of 14 medals—including six gold, three silver and three bronze—while also securing two Pro Cards, which qualify athletes to compete in professional bodybuilding competitions.
The championships were held on June 27 and 28 in Pattaya, Thailand, with 327 athletes from 47 countries competing in the event organized by the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness.
Sri Lankan bodybuilders Anoj Aloysius and W.R. Kavinda earned Pro Cards after meeting the qualifying standards for professional competition.
In addition to the athletes' success, Randeer Rodrigo, the President of the Sri Lanka Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, was awarded Gold Membership by the International Bodybuilding Federation in recognition of his contributions to the sport.
The team arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake this morning following their successful campaign.
