China is ready to make a greater contribution to Sri Lanka's development, the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhenhong said.

The Ambassador made the remarks while addressing a special event held in Colombo to mark the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

The event was attended by former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and Gotabaya Rajapaksa, leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, leader of the 'Sarvajana Balaya' and Member of Parliament Dilith Jayaweera, several current and former ministers and MPs, as well as the General Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Tilvin Silva, among other political representatives.   

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Qi Zhenhong said a new blueprint for China–Sri Lanka relations had been formulated following the successful discussions between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

He noted that cooperation between the political parties of both countries is an important pillar of China–Sri Lanka relations, adding that the Communist Party of China is willing to build ties with all political parties in Sri Lanka.

"China remains committed to strengthening bilateral relations, supporting poverty alleviation efforts, and contributing to the development of digital cities in Sri Lanka. We are also ready to implement the agreements reached between our two countries and make a greater contribution to Sri Lanka's development," the Ambassador added.
