
A 49-year-old man has been arrested by police for allegedly stealing mobile phones worth approximately Rs. 2.2 million from a mobile phone store located along the Horana–Anguruwatota Road.
The suspect, a resident of Grandpass in Colombo, is alleged to have broken the front glass door lock of the store and carried out the theft around 10 days ago.
Police investigations have also revealed that on the same day, the suspect allegedly broke into another nearby shop and stole goods, including cigarettes and milk packets, valued at around Rs. 66,000.
The arrest was made following a 10-day extensive investigation conducted by the Horana Police.
According to police, the suspect had handed over the stolen mobile phones to two other individuals for sale. Those two individuals have also been arrested.
Preliminary investigations further revealed that the suspect is a repeat offender who had been convicted in connection with 15 burglary and theft-related offences committed between 1993 and 2015.
The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Horana Magistrate's Court tomorrow (04), while Horana Police are conducting further investigations.
