Former MP criticises President’s remarks on judicial appointments

Former Member of Parliament and Attorney-at-Law Premnath C. Dolawatta has stated that remarks made by the President in Parliament regarding delays by the Executive in appointing judges to the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal are contrary to the rule of law prevailing in the country.
Issuing a statement, the 'Sathya Gaveshakayo' organisation’s founder presented several observations in this regard.
He further noted that the independence of the judiciary depends not only on the freedom enjoyed by judges in delivering judgments, but also on the transparency and integrity of the institutional framework governing their professional conduct.
