Death toll rises to 5 in renewed unrest at Negombo Prison

UPDATE – A total of five persons have succumbed to injuries in the renewed unrest at Negombo Prison while three of them are reportedly prison officers and the other two are prison inmates.

 

 

Three persons have reportedly died in the renewed unrest at Negombo Prison, which occurred a short while ago.

 

Accordingly, over 35 persons, mostly security forces personnel were injured and admitted to the Negombo Hospital.

 

Steps are being taken to transfer the seriously injured persons to the General Hospital in Colombo, according to police.
