The Department of Meteorology has issued an “Amber” advisory for strong winds and rough seas for the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and, from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
According to the Department of Meteorology, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and, from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be very rough at times with strong gusty winds up to 55-65 kmph.
The wave height may increase of about 2.0 – 2.5 meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota., it added.
Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant and attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.
