Letters of appointment will be issued to 1,252 officers recruited to Grade III of the Management Service Officers' Service tomorrow (07).
The event will be held at Temple Trees under the patronage of the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Professor Chandana Abayaratne, with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Ruwan Senarath.
Nearly 85,000 candidates sat for the open competitive examination held on October 5, 2025, for these positions. Based on the examination results, the selected candidates were chosen on merit, taking into account their examination scores and the interviews conducted on May 22, 23 and 24, 2026, the Ministry of Public Administration said.
Although the minimum qualification required for these recruitments is the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A/L), a considerable number of graduates have also qualified. All successful candidates are between the ages of 18 and 29. Of the 1,252 officers appointed, 1,006 are from the Sinhala medium, 217 from the Tamil medium and 29 from the English medium.
There are currently 1,615 vacancies in the Management Service Officers' Service. Minister Chandana Abayaratne stated that, as only 1,252 candidates met the required qualifications in the first round, steps will be taken to fill the remaining vacancies through a second round of recruitment.
The Minister noted that the suspension of new public service recruitments since 2021 had resulted in a severe shortage of officers, creating significant challenges for both the public and the government.
In line with a government policy decision, more than 35,000 individuals were recruited to the public service in 2025. Recruitment is currently underway to appoint more than 100,000 additional personnel to the public service this year. Plans have also been made to recruit a significant number of personnel in 2027, according to the Ministry.
