Over 1.7 million Sri Lankans employed overseas - Deputy FM

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra has stated that over 1.7 million Sri Lankans are currently employed in various countries around the world. 

 

The Deputy Minister revealed this while participating in a debate in Parliament today (08).

 

He further stated that Sri Lankan migrant workers remitted USD 8.2 billion to the country in 2025 alone.

 

Hemachandra expressed appreciation for the contribution made by Sri Lankan workers overseas towards stabilising the country’s economy, despite the current economic challenges.
