Met Department forecasts showers, strong winds across parts of island

Several spells of showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts today (09), according to the Department of Meteorology.
A few showers are also likely in the North Western Province, while mainly dry weather is expected to prevail across the rest of the island, the Met. Department said.
Meanwhile, strong winds of 40–50 km/h can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the North Central, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western provinces and in the Hambantota, Trincomalee and Mannar districts.
The general public has been advised to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of damage caused by strong winds.
