
The four individuals who were produced before court earlier today (09) in connection with the murder of a female physiotherapist in Nuwara Eliya have been further remanded.
Meanwhile, the Chief Inspector of Police attached to the Nuwara Eliya Police Headquarters has requested the court to permit the collection of a blood sample from the main suspect in the murder case when the suspects were produced before the court.
Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be escorted under the supervision of prison officials to the Judicial Medical Specialist at the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital to obtain the required blood sample.
The suspect was subsequently taken to the hospital under tight security provided by prison and police officers. After the blood sample was collected, all four suspects were produced before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate once again.
The Magistrate thereafter ordered that the four suspects be further remanded until July 16, 2026.
Police launched an investigation after the body of a female was discovered inside a car in Teldeniya on June 17, 2026.
Preliminary inquiries had revealed that the deceased woman had been staying at a hotel in Nuwara Eliya from June 3 to June 16. Police further stated that the incident was reported to authorities through a telephone call from an unidentified person reporting that a female body was inside a parked vehicle.
Accordingly, the victim’s boyfriend, who is alleged to have committed the murder, was arrested in Jaffna.
The deceased woman was identified as a physiotherapist attached to the Ampara Hospital.
Further investigations into the incident are conducted by Nuwara Eliya Police.
