Cabinet subcommittee reviews development plans for 25 technical colleges

The third meeting of the Cabinet subcommittee appointed to develop 25 Technical and Vocational Colleges under the Department of Technical Education and Training was held today (09), with discussions focusing on modernising vocational education in Sri Lanka.

 

The meeting, held at the Parliament Complex, was chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

 

Officials discussed plans to expand opportunities in vocational education, improve infrastructure facilities, and implement development measures aimed at upgrading the selected technical and industrial colleges.

 

The Prime Minister’s Office said the initiative is expected to improve the quality of vocational education, create new training opportunities, and provide students with access to modern technical knowledge and skills through improved facilities.

 

The meeting was attended by Minister of Ports, Civil Aviation and Energy Anura Karunathilaka, Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha, Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Dr. Upali Pannilage, along with senior officials from the Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education ministries.
