PC election funds not used for disaster relief activities – PM Harini

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has stated that funds allocated for the Provincial Council elections have not been utilized for disaster relief activities.

 

The Prime Minister made these remarks while addressing Parliament today (10).

 

Elaborating further, the Prime Minister stated that all financial assistance received from donors for providing relief to disaster-affected communities and for the reconstruction of damaged infrastructure has been securely deposited in a special account maintained under the supervision of the Deputy Secretary to the Treasury.

 

She further stated that these funds will be utilized transparently and efficiently for projects identified based on national priorities and requirements.

 

Accordingly, the Prime Minister noted that the projects will primarily focus on providing assistance to disaster-affected communities, restoring livelihoods, and rebuilding damaged public infrastructure and essential services.

 

She also emphasized that the management and utilization of all such funds will be carried out with the highest level of transparency, accountability, and adherence to the principles of good governance.
