Police impose traffic restrictions in several areas in Yatiyanthota

Police have announced temporary traffic restrictions in Yatiyanthota due to the annual Esala Maha Perahera of the Kabulumulla Rajamaha Paththini Devalaya.  

 

According to the Police Media Division, the procession will commence at 8.00 p.m. tomorrow (11) and will continue until 1.00 a.m. the following day (12).

 

The procession will begin from the Kabulumulla Rajamaha Paththini Devalaya and proceed along the Hatton–Colombo main road up to Karawanella Junction. It will then travel along the Kegalle–Avissawella road towards the vicinity of the Wandala Viharaya in Ruwanwella before returning to the Paththini Devalaya.  

 

During the procession, traffic restrictions will be imposed on the Hatton–Colombo main road from Karawanella to Nawata Junction. Police have introduced several alternative routes for motorists travelling through the area.

 

Vehicles travelling from Hatton towards Colombo have been advised to proceed via Yatiyanthota town, Parussella and Panapitiya roads towards Warawala Junction, then travel along the Kegalle–Avissawella main road to Ruwanwella. From there, motorists can proceed via Nittambuwa Road, Kottan Gas Junction, Mahadeniya Junction, Thalduwa and Avissawella to reach Colombo, police said.

 

Vehicles travelling from Kegalle towards Avissawella can use the same alternative route via Ruwanwella.

Meanwhile, vehicles travelling from Colombo towards Hatton can take the Amithirigala Road from Thalduwa Junction, proceed via Mahadeniya Junction, Kottan Gas Junction and Ruwanwella, and then enter the Bulathkohupitiya Road from Warawala Junction before reaching Yatiyanthota via the Parussella– Yatiyanthota Road.

  

Only three-wheelers and motorcycles travelling between Colombo and Hatton will be permitted to use the Yatiyanthota –Garagoda–Magammana Road to access the Kegalle–Avissawella main road and continue via the alternative routes.    

 

Police have requested motorists and the public to cooperate by using the designated alternative routes to minimize inconvenience caused by the traffic restrictions during the procession.
