Families affected by Cyclone Ditwah in Ulpathagama, Kandaketiya, remain without proper shelter more than seven months after the disaster destroyed their homes.

The cyclone, which struck Sri Lanka in November last year, caused widespread destruction, claiming lives and damaging both private and public property.

Despite the passage of several months, some affected residents say they are still waiting for assistance to rebuild their homes and restore their lives.

In Ulpathagama village, 27 families lost their homes completely due to the cyclone, while many other houses suffered partial damage.

Residents said they have not received adequate assistance to reconstruct their damaged houses, despite nearly eight months having passed since the disaster.

They further claimed that the 27 families whose homes were completely destroyed were summoned to the Kandaketiya Divisional Secretariat, where a process was initiated to allocate lands through a lottery system.
