
The number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka continues to rise, according to the National Dengue Control Unit.
As of yesterday (12), the total number of dengue cases reported this year had reached 68,672.
The Unit stated that 68,071 cases had been reported as of July 11, with the total increasing by 601 cases within a day.
The Western Province has recorded the highest number of infections, with 36,118 cases reported so far.
Within the province, the Gampaha District has reported the highest number of cases at 14,112, followed by the Colombo District with 13,791 cases.
Meanwhile, 13,293 dengue cases have been reported during the first 12 days of July.
The highest monthly case count recorded so far this year was in June, when 21,538 cases were reported.
The National Dengue Control Unit also stated that 47 deaths have been attributed to dengue during the year to date.
