Minister of Children and Women affairs Saroja Savithri Paulraj, has urged parents to ensure preschool children wear suitable clothing that covers their arms and legs, to protect them from dengue mosquito bites amid the ongoing dengue threat.
She made these remarks today (13) during a media briefing held at the Department of Government Information to raise awareness about National Early Childhood Week.
The request follows a recent decision by the Ministry of Education to allow schoolchildren to attend school wearing suitable clothing that covers their arms and legs as a preventive measure against dengue.
The measure aims to reduce the spread of dengue among schoolchildren by minimizing exposure to mosquito bites.
Minister Paulraj said the same precaution should be extended to preschool children, urging parents to dress them in appropriate protective clothing before sending them to preschool.
Speaking further, the Minister also encouraged parents to use child-safe mosquito repellents where appropriate and to take every possible precaution to protect children from mosquito bites.
She noted that the dengue risk remains a concern within educational institutions and stressed that the next two weeks will be particularly critical, urging parents to remain vigilant.
