The 80 reservoirs managed by the Irrigation Department are currently at 48 percent of their total water capacity, according to Irrigation Director (Water Management) Engineer H.M.P.S.D. Herath.
The Director urged the general public to use water sparingly and conserve supplies due to the current storage levels.
However, Engineer Herath said the available water resources are expected to be sufficient, as cultivation activities for the Yala season have already been completed.
He added that adequate water supplies are also available for communities relying on reservoirs for drinking water.
The Irrigation Director further stated that a shortage of drinking water is not anticipated, with rainfall expected during October and November.
