
The final rites of veteran Sri Lankan singer Mariazelle Goonetilleke were held this afternoon (13) at the Borella General Cemetery.
Mariazelle Goonetilleke passed away on Friday (10) while receiving treatment at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila after a brief illness. She was 68.
Renowned for her distinctive Western-style vocals, Goonetilleke enjoyed a celebrated career and remained one of Sri Lanka's most admired singers.
Her repertoire included a string of popular hits such as Kandy Lamissi, Rahasai Sonduru Jeeve, Sihina Nelum Mal, Nelum Male Pethi Kadala, Kumaranane, Yowun Seena Loke and Pahan Nowana among many others.
Family members, fellow artistes, and admirers gathered to pay their final respects as the country bid farewell to one of its most beloved musical icons.
