Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Colombo Municipal Council member Deepa Edirisinghe has resigned from her position.
The resignation was made in accordance with a commitment she had given when accepting the council seat that she would step down after one year, according to reports.
Speaking to Ada Derana, Edirisinghe said that while she has resigned from the council position, she will continue to be involved in the activities of the SLFP Central Committee.
The SLFP is expected to nominate a new member to the Colombo Municipal Council to fill the vacancy created by her resignation.
The name of the new member will be officially announced through a Gazette notification following the nomination.
Reports indicate that similar resignations have taken place previously within the SLFP, and the party considers such changes as part of its internal process.
