
A 63-year-old Filipino woman has been arrested for attempting to smuggle 6 kilograms and 180 grams of ‘kush’ into Sri Lanka through the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake.
The arrest was made in the early hours of today (14) by officers attached to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) Airport Unit during a raid conducted at the airport's arrival terminal.
The suspect is currently in the custody of the Police Narcotics Bureau Airport Unit, which is conducting further investigations.
Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man was arrested yesterday (13) in Parangoda, Dompe, in possession of 9 kilograms and 128 grams of crystal methamphetamine ("Ice") during a raid carried out by the Police Special Task Force (STF).
The operation, conducted by officers from the STF Gonahena Camp based on intelligence, also led to the seizure of three anti-personnel landmines, three fuses, 20 rounds of M16 ammunition, five swords, an electronic weighing scale, and a motorcycle.
Further investigations into the incidents are underway.
