The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to proceed with the awarding of the contract for the construction of a new building comprising 36 check-in counters and six boarding gates connecting the departure terminal to the aircraft at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.

Approval for initiating the procurement process was granted at the Cabinet meeting held on February 9, 2025, as part of the infrastructure development project aimed at expanding the capacity of the airport’s passenger departure terminal.

Accordingly, an international competitive bidding process was conducted to select a suitable contractor, and three bids were received for the project. Following a comprehensive evaluation of the bids, the Standing High Level Procurement Committee submitted its recommendations for consideration.

Accordingly, based on these recommendations, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation to award the contract to M/s Maga Engineering (Pvt) Ltd., identified as the lowest substantially responsive bidder.

The contract has been awarded for a total value of USD 7.26 million (excluding Value Added Tax) and LKR 3.77 billion (excluding Value Added Tax).
