
Sri Lanka has recorded more than 1.2 million tourist arrivals so far this year, with the total number of visitors exceeding the 1.2 million mark by mid-July, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).
The SLTDA said 1,217,956 tourists arrived in the country from January 1 to July 12.
A total of 71,383 tourists visited Sri Lanka during the first 12 days of July, the data showed.
India accounted for the highest number of arrivals during July so far, with 16,610 visitors, followed by the United Kingdom with 7,296 and Australia with 4,656.
India also remained the leading source of tourists during the year to date, with 310,293 arrivals recorded. The United Kingdom ranked second with 115,863 visitors while China recorded 80,487 arrivals.
The highest monthly tourist arrivals so far this year were recorded in February, when 279,328 visitors arrived in Sri Lanka.
