
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya departed for Qatar today (14) to pay her final respects to former Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away on Monday.
During the visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to officially convey the condolences of the Sri Lankan government and people over the passing of the former Emir.
The visit is also expected to reaffirm the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Sri Lanka and Qatar while highlighting Sri Lanka’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Several opposition Members of Parliament also departed for Doha on the same flight to attend the funeral ceremony.
According to airport sources, the delegation left the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at 6.50 p.m. aboard SriLankan Airlines flight UL217 bound for Doha.
