The Sri Lanka Coast Guard has seized stocks of narcotics and contraband worth over Rs. 90 million during the first six months of this year.

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard in a statement said it has intensified its island-wide operations against drug trafficking and other illegal activities under the “A Nation United” initiative.

The operations, conducted in coordination with relevant stakeholders and law enforcement agencies, resulted in the seizure of large quantities of illegal substances and goods during the first six months of 2026.

Among the seized items were heroin, ice, hashish, foreign and locally cultivated cannabis including Kush, illegal medicinal capsules, foreign cigarettes, locally produced liquor, kendu leaves, and foreign-manufactured beedi, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard added.

The total street value of the seized items is estimated to exceed Rs. 90 million.

A total of 78 individuals allegedly involved in these illegal activities were arrested during the operations and handed over to law enforcement authorities for further investigations and legal proceedings.

The Coast Guard said operations will continue as part of ongoing efforts to curb the smuggling and distribution of narcotics across the country.
